As you are asked to provide a critical account of recent historical developments, you should probably consider the 1970’s as the earliest starting point to go back to, as developments have been fairly significant from this point both in terms of service user and carer activism and government policy/legislation. You may find however that you want to concentrate only on the last 10 years for example, and that would be fine. Your introduction therefore could provide some comment on what is meant by SUC involvement (who, what, why) and a general overview of events of the last 10 to 50 years – from where we were then to where we are now in terms of health and care services, supported with references from literature and policy/legislation – suggested 300 words The main body of your work is on current discourses and theoretical perspectives/models of inclusive practices. Plan to make between 8 main points here, of things you think are important and relevant to your service user group, guides your practice etc, integrating examples from practice of what SUC involvement looks like and wha‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍t still needs to be improved. You could structure your discussion around some key pieces of policy/legislation to consider their impact and this will help you to find the themes you will want to write about. Or, you may want to structure your work by taking one or two key components of SUC involvement such as self-advocacy or personalisation, and tracing how these particular models of inclusion have been supported by legislation and policy for your SUC group. Don’t forget that you will be looking for literature that comments on the policies and legislation as well, some of which may be written by SUC’s themselves, or by researchers working with SUC’s, to help you bring criticality into your work. Suggested 1800 words. ( 300 words for each point). Conclude your work by summarising your main points and evaluating how well the current legislation and policies have supported SUC involvement, with any comment or observation that you feel relevant – suggested 200 words.
