Compare and contrast the approaches you discussed in part 1 of the assessment with the practice architecture perspective on leading learning What are the advantages and limitations of the practice architecture approach in comparison with earlier theories of leadership and leading? Select an example of leading learning from your current professional context or other work/personal experiences and evaluate it using the practice architecture approach. What are the “doings, says, and relatings” present in your example? What are the practices of leading learning in your example? What does your example show about the usefulness of using the practice architecture approach to examine leading learning in contemporary contexts? Let’s break down the three parts to this assessment that you need to address. Critically analyse the main leadership approaches discussed in class The first part of your essay needs to briefly outline the traditional approaches to leadership that we have discussed in class. The focus of this section should be on identifying the underlying assumptions of traditional approaches to leadership and critical‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ly discussing their usefulness in contemporary contexts. As part of this, you should include a discussion of the overall cultural assumptions of these approaches and what this means for our understanding of leadership. Compare and contrast the approaches you discussed in part 1 of the assessment with the practice architecture perspective on leading learning The second part of your essay should build on part 1. In part 1, you discussed traditional leadership approaches. In part 2 you will take this a step further by comparing these traditional approaches (as a whole) to the more recent practice architecture approach limitations of the practice architecture approach compared to earlier approaches to leadership. Select an example from your current professional context or other work experiences and evaluate it using the practice architecture approach The final part of your essay, part 3, asks you to provide an example from your professional practice and analyse it using a practice architecture approach. This is for two reasons. First, we want to see how well you understand the practice architecture approach by applying it to a real-world example. Second, this will give you the opportunity to start reflecting on your own leading practices. We would recommend keeping your workplace example quite simple and restricted to one task or event such as a meeting. You should offer a brief description of your example before analysing it using the practice architecture approach. For example, if you are using a team meeting as an example you would write about what you and your colleagues “do” and “say” in the meeting, and how you all “relate”. You would then tie all that together to talk about how they hang together in the practice architecture and what this tells you about the practices of leading learning in your workplace. This is not supposed to be a difficult or exhaustive study of your workplace, merely a way to demonstrate your understanding of the key concepts of pra‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ctice architecture.
