Part III: Final Scholarly Paper Assignment Guidelines Final Scholarly paper guidelines Most of your paper is already written –This submission will include your title page, Practice Question, Evidence, Translation, and Summary Headings, Reference, and Appendices pages. The Translation section of your EBP scholarly paper is typically where you would describe what you did with the evidence findings from your project. Your plan for implementation is contingent upon your Practice Recommendations and the Pathway Translation that you identified in your Synthesis Process and Recommendations tool. For example, if you had good and consistent evidence, then you would likely recommend a pilot test of change as you advance the practice in your organization; if you found good but conflicting evidence, then you may need to enlist the help of a researcher to develop a study to generate more evidence on the topic. Examples of implementation strategies may include describing which group of people in your organization would be accountable for making the decisions about changing practice; policy or procedure development or revision; develop and provide an educational intervention; peer review for competency validation of the new project; integration into orientation materials; etc. Your JHN textbook (Chapter 10: Exemplars) provides examples of implementation and measurement strategies used in EBP projects. For this paper you will be expected to critically inform how the practice recommendations derived from your evidence could inform practice. Consider this a generalized statement which could potentially be adopted in nursing practice. Do not include an action plan, or steps required to conduct a practice change for this section which differs from the textbook exemplars. Step 1 Translation Heading Section 1. Provides a Brief one to two paragraph interpretation of the findings and/or results of the evidence found as identified in the three articles you appraised. In this section you are summarizing in your own words how the final gist of the evidence you examined informs practice. 2. According to Dang and Dearholt (2018) “Translation assesses the recommendations identified in the evidence phase for transferability to a desired practice setting” (p. 167). This change leads to a change in practice, processes, and/or systems and results in outcomes (Dang & Dearholt, 2018, p. 167). 3. How could you hypothetically take this evidence and create a practice project if the opportunity was available to you. In the textbook exemplars the team took the evidence to create a project using the evidence found in the literature. 4. What type of evidence did you uncover according to Dang and Dearholt? (see Path to Translation p. 170), Was it strong and compelling? Good with consistent results, Good with conflicting results or insufficient or absent evidence (Dang & Dearholt, 2018, p. 170). 5. Determine the Fit, Feasibility, and Appropriateness of Recommendations for Translation Answer the following questions which apply to your inquiry as posed in Dang and Dearholt (2018): 1. Would this change improve clinical outcomes? 2. Would this change improve patient or nurse satisfaction? 3. Would this change reduce the cost of care for patients? 4. Would this change improve unit operations? (p. 172). 6. An Action Plan is not required for this paper as your paper will instead share how what you learned be generalized for the reader. Step 2 Summary Heading Section 1. Summary Section differs from (Chapter 10, Dang & Dearholt’s Exemplars) In Dang & Dearholt’s Exemplars the Summary heading section highlights the results of a team project, identification of a best practice is shared, and outcomes. Therefore, in this section of your paper the textbook Exemplar examples do not apply as you will not be conducting a study (pp. 222-235). You are an individual, and not a member of the EBP team for this assignment, therefore, you are only required to instead explain how if possible, your scientific inquiry could be adopted in current nursing practice and if so, what would be some of the hypothetical or evidenced outcomes? 2. In this paper you will briefly restate your practice question and succinctly in your own words state the Implications for Practice in terms of the impact your examination of the evidence informs nursing practice. This section can include visionary insight which you reasoned from your review of the scientific literature and may include “future goals”, or “future research recommendations”. 3. For further clarification; the scientific inquiry informed practice recommendations based on the synthesis of findings from your articles. Therefore, suggest how this evidence can potentially inform practice. For example: …in what specific circumstances, setting, and under what conditions. How it will impact nursing, any measures such as costs or reduction of costs? Patient satisfaction, nursing satisfaction, Time? Retention? Safety? specific outcomes? 4. You will inform a broader more generalized critical synopsis of what you discovered. Or- in some cases explain that it does not impact practice, or is the current standard of care, or informs best practices, and/or is currently practiced in most clinical settings. 5. In this section describe any identified Limitations of the project (Example: limited to nurses working in outpatient clinical settings, Small samples sizes, only 3 articles were examined, and further research is required to inform clinical practice) Step 3 APA and Editing 1. Edit your paper using the Microsoft tools; Under the Review heading access the [A] Read Aloud Function because sometimes hearing your paper read will uncover comprehension gaps and always check spelling prior to submission for final grading. 2. Complete your full scholarly paper based on your EBP practice topic according to APA guidelines. Note: Practice Question, Evidence, Translation, and Summary sections are all regarded as Level I headers and should be centered and bolded. 3. Each section of your paper carries equal weight however, in the final paper your APA style of writing is graded for the entire paper and therefore, consider prior instructor comments. 4. The Capstone paper is your Exemplar, therefore, take the time to create a paper worthy of scholarly dissemination. Note Quality is more important that quality for this paper. You are learning to write clearly, concisely and in your own words. This is a factual evidenced paper, so your opinions are not included. You conducted a systematic thorough examination of the scientific literature and are sharing your critical inquiry with your interdisciplinary team. Includes any limitations, and/generalization across settings, and/or populations. 20pts Summary Impact States how it will impact nursing, any measures such as costs or reduction of costs? Patient satisfaction, nursing satisfaction, Time? Retention? Safety? specific outcomes? Hypothetical or Outcomes based on the Evidence found in the 3 articles under study. 10pts APA Scholarly Formatted Paper APA formatted paper with Headings: Practice Question, Evidence, Translation, and Summary as Level I headers centered and bolded.
